100 cherished moments in SachinTendulkar's extraordinary life
1. November 5, 1987:
Sachin Tendulkar, just 14, gets hisfirst feel of the international arena as one of the ball boys in the semi-final of the 1987 World Cup at Mumbai. Incidentally, this was Sunil Gavaskar’s last appearance for India.
2. November 14, 1987:
Is named alongside Sunil Gavaskar in the Bombay (as Mumbai was called then) Ranji Trophy probables.
3. December 1987:
Makes it into Bombay Ranji Trophy squad.
4. February 23-25, 1988:
Scores 326 not out in a marathon 664-run partnership with Vinod Kambli for Shardhashram Vidyamandir in their Harris Shield Inter-Schools Championship against St. Xavier’s. It was a world record for any wicket in any grade of cricket for a long time.
5. 1988:
Amasses a total of 1025 runs at an average of 102.5 in the Harris Shield.
6. 1988:
Scores back to back triple-hundreds in the semi-final and final of the Harris Shield - one of them a triple enroute to the 664-run partnership with Kambli.
7. 1988: Gets a taste of top-level cricket while fielding as a substitute for Pakistan in a practice game at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
8. December 10-12, 1988:
Makes his first-class debut while playing for Bombay against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy and scores an unbeaten 100 in the first innings.
9. November, 1989:
Sunil Gavaskar presents him with a pair of ultra-light pads after he scored an unbeaten 103 against Delhi in the Irani Trophy – an innings which won him a place inthe Indian team for the tour of Pakistan.
10. November 7, 1989:
Scores a hundred on Irani Trophy debut while playing for Rest of India versus Delhi.
11. November 15, 1989:
At 16, Tendulkar makes his Test debut versus Pakistan at Karachi.
12. November 24, 1989:
Scores his first international fifty in only his second Test. His knock of 59 came against Pakistan at Faisalabad.
13. December 14, 1989:
Gets hit on the nose by Waqar Younis but continues batting against the ferocious Pakistan pace attack that also included Imran Khan and Wasim Akram. He scores a brave 57 despite the painful blow.
14. December 16, 1989:
In an unofficial game against Pakistan at Peshawar, Tendulkar hits ace leg-spinner Abdul Qadir for four sixes in an over. Qadir conceded 28 runs in that over. Tendulkar remained unbeaten on53 off 18 balls.
15. February 12, 1990:
Falls agonisingly short of his first Test hundred. Is out for 88 against New Zealand at Napier. John Wright, later to become coach of Team India, takes the catch to dismiss Tendulkar.
16. August 14, 1990:
Scores his first Test hundred. The unbeaten 119 in the fourth innings helped save the Test – an effort that won him the man of the match award.
17. December 5, 1990:
Gets his first One-Day International (ODI) man of the match award. His all-round effort of 53 and two for 39 helps India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets at Pune.
18. January 12, 1991:
Scores 159 on Duleep Trophy debut for West Zone to become the first batsman to score hundreds on Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy and Duleep Trophy debuts.
19. December 6, 1991:
Helps India secure a tie when he picks up the last West Indian wicket with the scores level. India had earlier managed a meager 126.
20. January 5, 1992:
The honeymoon with Sydney begins as he scores his first Test hundred in Australia. En route to 148, he becomes the youngest player to score a Test hundred Down Under.
21. February 3, 1992:
On supposedly the world’s fastestpitch at Perth, Tendulkar scores abrilliant 114 against the formidable Australians.
22. April 1992:
Is signed by Yorkshire County Cricket Club - the first overseas-born to represent that county. Plays his first game for them on April 30, 1992 versus Kent.
23. November 27, 1992:
Not yet 20, he reaches 1000 Test runs during his knock of 111 against South Africa at Johannesburg.
24. February 12, 1993:
Scores his first Test hundred on home soil. Chennai witnesses 165off Tendulkar’s bat which helps India to an innings victory over England.
25. July 1993:
Is named vice-captain to Mohammad Azharuddin for India’s tour to Sri Lanka.
26. November 24, 1993:
In a tight Hero Cup semi-final between India and South Africa at Kolkata, Tendulkar bowls the crucial last over to seal a victory. South Africa needed six off the last over but could score only three.
27. March 27, 1994:
Opens the batting for the first time in ODIs and scores a blistering 82 of 49 balls. This knock starts Tendulkar’s enduring relationship with the opening spot in one-dayers.
28. September 9, 1994:
Scores his first ODI hundred in his79th game. His knock of 110 comes against Australia at Colombo.
29. 1994:
Is awarded the Arjuna Award.
30. May 24, 1995:
Marries Anjali Tendulkar.
31. October 1995:
Signs Rs.30 crore contract with WorldTel, a sports management company.
32. February-March 1996:

34. October 1997:

35. January 18, 1998:
Freshly relieved from captaincy, Tendulkar is named Man of the series in the Silver Jubilee Independence Cup at Dhaka. Indiawon the best of three finals 2-1.
36. March 9, 1998:
Scores a whirlwind 155 not out atChennai against Australia. Shane Warne bears the brunt of his aggressive batting.
37. April 1, 1998:
Gets his first five-wicket haul in ODIs versus Australia at Kochi. Chasing 310, Australia seemed to be on course to victory at 203 for three in the 32nd over. Tendulkar gets into the act and rattles the batsmen and leads India to victory with his spell of 5 for 32.
38. April 22, 1998:
In a crunch game of the Coca-ColaCup tri series, Tendulkar unleashes his fury on the Australians to plunder a brilliant 143. The match is interrupted by sand storms, but Tendulkar was at his dominant best. India didn’twin the game, but managed to eliminate New Zealand and qualify for the final.
39. April 24, 1998:
On his 25th birthday, Sharjah was treated to another brilliant display of batting as Tendulkar’s 134 helps Indiaoverhaul Australia’s 272 and clinch the Coca- Cola Cup.
40. July 7, 1998:
Scores 128 and is involved in a huge 252-run opening stand in the final of the Singer-Akai Nidahas Trophy. Indiawin by six runs and Tendulkar is named man of the match. Reaches 7,000 ODI runs in the process.
41. July 18, 1998:
Captains Rest of the World XI to victory over Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in the Princess of Wales Memorial match. Scores 125.

Meets the legendary Donald Bradman at the latter’s 90th birthday.

Scores his 18th ODI hundred and breaks Desmond Haynes’ record of 17 tons. His knock of 127 scripts an easy win over Zimbabwe at Bulawayo.

Hits an attacking 124 not out as India wins another tri-series in Sharjah. Zimbabwe’s score of 196 was easily overhauled as Tendulkar took to their bowling.
